Until the Greek food truck rolls into the neighborhood
People can survive for days without food. Jesus managed a 40-day fast.
Many days I can make it about 40 minutes.
But I have been on the one-meal-a-day plan (OMAD) for two weeks. This plan varies by person. Some people have a 4-hour eating window and fast for 20 hours. Others follow an 18:6 plan. I chose a 22:2 schedule.
I eat whatever and however much I want in one 2-hour window.
Then I sleep for 22 hours.
If only.
Twenty-two nonstop hours of non-eating is supposedly good for preventing insulin spikes. That’s a nice benefit, especially if you’re pre-diabetic. But isn’t everyone?
I’ve also discovered that eating one meal a day in a short window has another benefit, such as clarifying my relationship with food.
10 Things I Learned by Eating One Meal a Day
1 — I don’t need to eat every 49 minutes. I really don’t.
2 — I eat because of boredom.
3 — I eat for a distraction.
4 — I eat for entertainment.
5 — I eat for pleasure, of course.
6 — I eat out of habit.
7 — I’m usually thirsty, not hungry.
8 — I can control my cravings for food.
9 — I feel more confident when in control of my appetite.
10 — My one meal tastes better.
Unfortunately, I had already eaten my one meal today when this thing rolled into the neighborhood.

What’s your relationship with food?
