No one knows how bad it is

Does anyone need to know that the chicken casserole they’re enjoying was supposed to be chicken marsala?

Only you know, and you’re the only one who needs to know.

So, smile and say thank you when they ask for seconds.

When a friend comments that you’re looking slimmer and must be working out, why do you shake it off and moan about the few pounds you’ve put back on since Christmas? Just flex and say thank you.

When I finish a woodworking project, I tell my family that it’s a one-of-a-kind, extremely limited edition, and my signature is all over it.

I don’t point out and apologize for the mistakes. No one notices, anyway. The design was in my head. They don’t know what it’s supposed to look like.

There are three primary reasons you need to stop apologizing for your work and art.

3 Reasons You Should Stop Apologizing for Your Work

1 — Apologizing Makes You Look Incompetent

Apologizing for your work is an admission that it didn’t go according to plan. The project took you where it wanted to go. Who wants to hire someone who can’t manage the outcomes?

Stop sabotaging your efforts.

2 — Apologizing Makes You Feel Incompetent

Apologies for your work are negative self-talk that erodes your confidence. Once your confidence slips, your competence will soon follow.

Give yourself a break.

Learn from your mistakes.

Tackle perfect next time.

3 — No One Cares

The final reason you must stop apologizing for your work is the most important.

No one cares.

Truly.

You’re the only one emotionally affected by it. Instead of wasting your words, listen to theirs. They may have valuable comments that will help you next time.

Wrapping It Up

Even if your project doesn’t turn out as planned, you will learn things through the process. Nothing is wasted. You learn nothing by doing nothing.

Don’t sabotage yourself with unnecessary apologies that make you look and feel incompetent.

Now, get to work.
