Remember This ’90s Praise and Worship Hit?
You may be like me and enjoy popping in your earbuds, taking a walk, and listening to worship music. Are you braver than me and lift your hands while singing along?
The other morning, an oldie goldie shuffled through my playlist. Surely, you know it – “Lord, I Life Your Name on High.”
Lord I lift Your name on high
Lord I love to sing Your praises
I’m so glad You’re in my life
I’m so glad You came to save us
It’s such a good song that I couldn’t help but sing along. However, when it was over, I time-traveled back from the early ’90s and realized that I was not lifting Jesus’ name on high.
His name is already on high.
No amount of praise will lift Him any higher.
Jesus Is Already Lifted On High

Jesus is crowned with glory and honor. Hebrews 2:9
Jesus is the Alpha and Omega. Revelation 1:8

Jesus is seated at the right hand of God. Colossians 3:1
Jesus is the Author and Finisher of our faith. Hebrews 12:2
Jesus is the Firstborn of all creation. Colossians 1:15
Jesus is the Judge of the living and the dead. Acts 10:42
Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life. John 11:25
Jesus is the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. John 14:6
Jesus is before all things. Colossians 1:17

Jesus is the Name to which every knee will bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth. Philippians 2:10
Jesus is the Name to which every tongue will confess is Lord. Philippians 2:11
What Are You Really Doing When You Sing?

When I sing the song, I’m merely confessing the Truth that was firmly established “before the foundation of the world” (1 Peter 1:20). I am acknowledging and aligning my heart, mind, and spirit with the reality of Who God is.
And an amazing thing happens.
God lifts me.
He lifts my spirit, my attitude, and my perspective. He often pulls me out of a pit of despair. I am the one moved and transformed.
It’s Not About How It Feels
However, we don’t praise God for a quick hit of dopamine. We praise Him because He is worthy, and in His infinite mercy, He meets us where we are and is too good to leave us there.
God wants to return us to our elevated positions as His sons and daughters who will one day reign with Christ (2 Timothy 2:12) and judge even the angels (1 Corinthians 6:3).
So, what does this mean for you?
Transforming Your Worship Experience

Next time you’re lost in worship, remember: you’re not changing God’s status. You’re aligning with reality.
And here’s the kicker – while you’re proclaiming His greatness, He’s working on you.
Think about it.
Are you letting His truth sink in? Or are you just mouthing words?
Because here’s the deal: True worship isn’t about feeling good. It’s about seeing God for who He is – and seeing yourself in that light.
It’s humbling. It’s transformative. It’s revolutionary.
Because when you truly praise Him, guess what?
He lifts you up to the place He’s prepared for you.
As His child.
His heir.
His ambassador.
It starts with recognizing who He really is.
It’s Time to Get Real with Your Worship

So, go ahead. Crank up that worship music. Sing at the top of your lungs. Lift those hands in the air and wave them like you don’t care who’s watching.
But don’t stop there.
Let His truth change you.
