Sometimes, God’s answer to someone’s prayers is you.
The following is based on actual events that occurred almost two years ago. The story depicts God’s faithfulness so well that I must share it.
I go to bed every night, knowing my baby-size bladder will wake me a few hours later. When the urge strikes, I roll over, try to tough it out, and go back to sleep—until the pressure browbeats me awake again.
My first thought is always, “What time is it, and how long have I slept?” I ripped the blanket back yesterday and grabbed my iPhone with these questions.
3:19 am.
With the best mental gymnastics I could muster in the first watch of the day, I calculated almost seven consecutive hours of sleep (I go to bed early). The next question that faces me is: Come back to bed or stay up? I decided to stay up and take a long, hot shower as a reward.
An hour later, I’m reading the Bible. The Pharoah still won’t let God’s people go. I laid my Bible down and will read about the gnat plague tomorrow. I glanced at my phone, and there was a voicemail from my residential tenant at 4:15 am. Of course, I didn’t hear the ring because my phone was on Do Not Disturb until 7 am.
No one should have to talk to anyone before then.
I listened to the frantic message about locking herself out of the apartment. She is supposed to be at work in 45 minutes. I called her back and told her I’d be there in a few minutes. I didn’t bother asking how in the heck she locked herself out at 4:15 in the morning.
You can sense when someone just needs help and not questions.
When I arrived, she was sitting on the front porch with her kittens. The frisky felines were the reason my tenant locked herself out. She came out to feed them and accidentally closed the locked door.
She was very apologetic and felt terrible about disturbing me so early. I could only smile and say,
“The Lord knew you’d need help this morning. He woke me up early just for you.”
Consider the five factors:
- My phone is on DND from 10 pm to 7 am.
- At 3:19 am, I decided to stay up.
- If I had gone back to bed, I would’ve slept undisturbed until my bladder woke me again.
- I was fully awake and dressed at 4:15 am on the very morning my tenant needed immediate help.
- I was the only person who could help her.
The sweet lady who was too kind to turn away a stray pregnant cat got to work on time.
Sometimes, God answers prayers and works out His plans through you.
