The battle is real

I’ve written many articles about a superpower that’s accessible to all. A superpower that doesn’t discriminate by color, height, weight, intelligence, gender, status, strength, or geography.

It doesn’t matter if your belly button is an innie or an outie. The only qualifier is your willingness to access this superpower.

Your superpower is consistency.

A List of My Articles About Consistency

I’m passionate about consistency because it changed my life. Consistency powered me through the Bible four times, shredded 35 pounds of midlife fat, accelerated my writing education, and fueled two books in four months.

Consistency can do the same for you, and probably more because I’m lazy.

But you will be tested.

Every superhero has an archenemy.

The Archenemy of Consistency

As you wield the superpower of consistency to reach remarkable goals, your most vile enemy will be discouragement. Paralyzing doubts will challenge you along the way.

Would it matter to anyone if I gave up?

Does anyone care?

Will I ever get 100 followers?

How long does it take to succeed?

No One Can Care More Than You

The truth is, no one can care more than you. You have to believe in your mission. No one can believe for you. Last year, I released my book, Stronger Down the Stretch: Surviving Midlife Without a Crisis, because I believe a midlife crisis is a cancer that destroys marriages and families and inflicts devastation upon children of divorce.

Publishing the book was the culmination of hundreds of hours of work. It was an emotional high, ranking in my life’s Top 5 list, just behind marriage and the birth of my three children. My wife and I texted and emailed family and friends, certain they’d celebrate in our excitement.

Only a few people responded. Most didn’t.

It was a punch in the gut. But will the disappointment be my defining moment? Do I not believe in the book’s mission because friends and family are too busy or apathetic to respond?

The answers are crucial.

Kick Discouragement in the Teeth

Do you see why discouragement is such a nasty villain to the superpower of consistency? Discouragement would have us quit.

Discouragement whispers,

“You’re not good enough.”

“No one cares what you have to say.”

“Leave this important work to the smart people.”

And if you don’t believe in the power of your mission, you’ll return to binging Parks and Rec and sleeping until the very last second.

Discouragement wins, and a few people who your unique voice could impact lose.

But you can hit the tipping point if you kick discouragement in the teeth and remain consistent with good work devoted to helping people. You always have a chance if you persevere.

You lose when you quit. Everyone loses when you quit.
