Confession: I love praise. My emotions soar when people say good things about me, but unfortunately, they can swing the other way when the accolades don’t come, or even worse, criticism does.
Such a wicked trap.
This behavior isn’t healthy, and Jesus knew better. When He entered Jerusalem at the beginning of His ministry and did many signs and wonders, His fandom began to grow.
Yet, John tells us in John 2:24-25, “But Jesus didn’t trust them, because he knew all about people. No one needed to tell him about human nature, for he knew what was in each person’s heart.“
Don’t you know Jesus already foresaw that, just a few years later, some of these same people would cry, ‘Crucify Him’?
As Christians, we shouldn’t need the approval of people because they are fickle, moody, unreliable, and even worse at times, manipulative. You may receive praise today, but it’s gone tomorrow, like aiming for a moving target.
Don’t trust your emotions to people who sing hallelujah about you today and “Crucify” a short time later.
But in Christ, we are accepted, secure, significant, chosen, and loved, and His mind doesn’t sway with the breeze, and His motives are always pure.
Let’s get away from checking our screens for social media likes and learn to love and depend upon His praise.
