Do you ever find yourself in the middle of something and your phone vibrates or your computer beeps, and you stop to see what it is?  Or maybe you’re like me, and a random thought crosses your mind, and you jump on Google to see which grocery store has ribeyes on sale this week.

These distractions constantly interject into our days, and we chase them like wild dogs after squirrels. Oh, there’s one! Let’s go get it. Oh, another one! And off we go.

Then, when we get back to our project, it takes us several minutes to catch up to where we were. Or we lose our place and find out later that the distraction caused us to make a mistake.

The Power of a Simple Prompt

Recently, a squirrel popped into my day, and the Holy Spirit prompted me, “Finish the process,” advising me to complete the task at hand before responding to the text message, Team chat, or my burning curiosity about when the next season of The Lincoln Lawyer is coming out on Netflix.

Finishing the process means getting to a stopping point, which is usually within a couple of minutes. This new prompt has helped me stay on task and avoid mistakes due to constant distractions, and everyone can wait a minute or two.

A Spiritual Shift: Finish the Process of Faith

Did you know this “Finish the process” concept has spiritual implications?

The Holy Spirit showed me the other day.

I was deeply discouraged about something, and I stood up from my desk and said, “Lord, I need help. I need direction.”

Standing didn’t feel right. I needed to humble myself, so I got on my knees, repeated the prayer, and returned to my desk.

Within a few minutes, my phone rang, and it was the most unexpected, least likely call I could imagine, but it was a direct answer to my prayer. The Lord was telling me I could trust Him, keep the faith, and stay on the path.

A few hours later, while retelling this amazing story to my wife, I said, “I hope this means I’m making the right decisions.” She quickly replied that I surely couldn’t doubt it, considering how quickly and succinctly God responded to my cry.

Hold On to the Answer

It’s astounding how double-minded we can be.

Immediately, I felt the Holy Spirit whisper, “Finish the process.”

Finish trusting Him, have faith in His answers, and believe that when a desperate son asks his Father for bread, a Good Father isn’t going to hand him a stone instead.

The Devil is a Liar But God is Faithful

Don’t get distracted by fear, doubts, and the Enemy’s lies. It’s amazingly sad how the devil’s deceptions can pull us deeper into a pit of despair than God’s promises can lift us into hope.

God is Faithful. Finish the process.
