If you’re reading this, you probably want to know who’s behind these words. I’d love to introduce myself—not just with titles and experience, but with the things that truly define me.
I am in my 50s, have been married for over 30 years to the same saint (just long enough to realize that she’s right about most things), and we have 3 children – two daughters and a son. Our family also includes a son-in-law who I proudly call son, and a lazy, dysfunctional mutt named Toby that we adopted from a rescue agency over 10 years ago.
Why I Write
Like anyone who has lived 50 years, I have enough experiences to offer a few life lessons and am wise enough to realize that the Lord’s hand has blessed me through all of them. I’ve been sharing my insights on this blog site for 15 years – about life, marriage, parenting, God’s goodness, personal development, and even a few surprising lessons from Toby.
While I tinkered with my personal blog, I drifted for years unsure of what to do with my life. Then one day I asked God for help and felt Him say, “What is your slightest inkling, the faintest hint of what you want to do?” My only response was writing. And He said, “Pursue that.”
So, I did.
While my family is at the heart of who I am, my work has also played a huge role in shaping my journey.
A Lifelong Entrepreneur at Heart
Looking back, I realize my friendships naturally gravitated toward men running their own businesses—Joel with his computer networking company, Arthur in general contracting and plumbing, Daniel with his fleet of dump trucks, James as a land surveyor, Earl in roofing, and many of my freelance paralegal colleagues.
That probably wasn’t a coincidence. This entrepreneurial spirit has always been part of who I am. As a kid, I sold baseball cards at the flea market. Later, I scoured yard sales for items to flip on eBay. Over the years, I’ve found myself helping friends and family members with their businesses—building websites, creating content, or simply offering advice when they needed it. This passion for entrepreneurship has never left me.
Two Career Paths, One Purpose
My professional life has taken me down two distinct but rewarding paths.
For over 35 years, I’ve worked as a freelance real estate title examiner in Union County, North Carolina, conducting title exams for attorneys on real estate transactions.
When the real estate market crashed in 2008-2009, my career took a different path while I continued to remain in real estate. I took a job with a software company (owned by another friend), helping small business owners manage timekeeping for their employees.
This career pivot led to content creation and company SEO blog writing, refining the skills I had already been learning. Over time, I realized that content creation wasn’t just about marketing—it was about creating tools to help business owners simplify their operations.
Through thousands of conversations with business owners and customers, I’ve gained a deep appreciation for the challenges they face. Behind every small business is a real person—with families to feed, dreams to chase, and stories worth hearing.
What Drives Me
What drives me in both my title examination and content creation work is my passion for using the gifts God has given me to help people succeed. Whether I’m researching a property title or crafting clear content that connects with customers, I find fulfillment in removing obstacles and creating clarity that helps others move forward. I believe that using our gifts to serve others isn’t just good business—it’s good stewardship.
Work, Hobbies, and a Good Ribeye
Outside of work, I enjoy a variety of hobbies in no particular order: sitting on the beach with a book (because vacation isn’t a vacation without being on the beach), fantasy football, going to Carolina Panthers games with my son, smoking meat on my Big Green Egg, perfecting a ribeye (not there yet), woodworking, walking in the sun, teaching God’s Word through personal experiences, writing my personal blog, taking road trips and weekend TV bingeing with my wife, discovering local food dives, and honestly, work is my hobby too.
I’ve written two books on Amazon, each rooted in a different passion but driven by the same purpose—helping others. One is about fantasy football, and the other is about guiding men to lead Godly lives.
So whether you’re here for insights on faith, business, personal development, or just a good story, I hope you’ll find something useful—and maybe even a reason to chuckle along the way – because we all need a laugh these days, right?
