I’ve got nothing clever and creative this time; just a straightforward account of God’s mercy and greatness.

Tammie is a good friend of mine and my blog’s biggest fan. A couple of months ago her husband, Joe injured himself very badly falling off a ladder. It was touch and go for a while. He’s had surgeries and has since been in and out of the hospital. He is recovering nicely now at home, but Joe, a Charlotte police detective has not worked since the accident. Out of work and piling up medical bills has made life tough for Joe and Tammie’s family.

They recently received their income tax returns and every penny had a place and a purpose with no room to spare. Joe, however, felt compelled to tithe off the tax money. It is easy to give from one’s abundance, but they gave from their lack…several hundred dollars. A couple of weeks later, Joe’s sergeant at the police department asked Joe to stop by. The sergeant gave Joe an envelope. The envelope contained a collection taken by Joe’s fellow officers. As Joe and Tammie opened the envelope and counted the money on the way home, they realized that the envelope contained to the penny the amount they had tithed from their tax returns. To the penny!  Tammie wanted to jump out of the 60 mph moving car and start screaming and praising God to everyone on the boulevard.

Call it a coincidence if you’d like, but then you will be missing out on one of God’s great promises. “…give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” Luke 6:38.

You can’t out give God
