Kryptonite

I was digging through some boxes the other day and I came across my very first Bible. I was 7 ½ years old and my great aunt and uncle gave it to me for Christmas.

Looking through it I was utterly astounded at the glaring lack of handwritten study notes in the margins and highlighted Scriptures. The pages are as fresh and crisp as an early December Sunday morning.  Since the “Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path” (Psalm 119:105), that would explain why I stumbled quite a bit growing up.

My days of apparent disregard to God’s love letter to us are over. I need the light, even if it is a lamp and not a flood light. 2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” Teaching, reproof, correction and training…I need all of the above and since God is the One breathing out the lessons, sign me up.

The Word is also our weapon against the Enemy. It contains valuable descriptions of who we are to God; what He thinks of us. We need these words in our minds and hearts so when the Great Deceiver begins condemning and lying to us, we can recall them and fight him off with the words that God says about us. His Words do not return empty (Isaiah 55:11), so the next time the Enemy begins reminding you of your faults and your past, speak the Word to him.

It is your power. It is his kryptonite.

Make it your New Year’s resolution to spend 5 minutes EVERYDAY in God’s Word. You can’t defeat the Enemy without it.
