Will and I read Psalm 119:100-105 this morning in his devotional. While no author is attributed to it, most scholars believe that it was written by King David. I found it wildly ironic. Let me share it with you.
I understand more than the aged,
for I keep your precepts.
I hold back my feet from every evil way,
in order to keep your word.
I do not turn aside from your rules,
for you have taught me.
How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!
Through your precepts I get understanding;
therefore I hate every false way.
Your word is a lamp to my feet
and a light to my path.
(Psalm 119:100-105 ESV)
King David, the man who impregnated Bathsheba in an adulterous affair and then murdered her husband says, “I hold my feet from every evil way” and “I keep your precepts”.
Did he have a memory lapse or think he was fooling God?
No, David was a man who realized that once you sought forgiveness from God for your mistakes, you don’t need to allow the Devil to keep reminding you of them. He wasn’t mired in the mistakes of his past; he was proclaiming the Truth over his present and future. He wasn’t allowing who he was to dictate who he will be. Once confessed and forgiven our sins are “as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103:12). God has removed them. They are long gone. We are solely responsible for bringing our past sins any closer. We keep them in our minds and these thoughts determine the direction of our lives. “For as he thinks within himself, so he is.” (Proverbs 23:7).
Focus on the fact that you were a failure, you always will be one.
Keep reminding yourself of how inconsistent you’ve always been and you will remain consistently inconsistent.
Dwell on how flat broke you are and you’ll never have two nickels to rub together.
Renew your mind (Romans 12:2). Give the Lord fresh ground to work on in your life to lay a different foundation. Speak over your life the Words He has said about you. You won’t believe them at first, but say them until you do; until you see them manifest in your life. Here’s a few of them:
◦If God is for You, who can be against You? Romans 8:31
◦God has plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
◦You can do all things through Him who strengthens you. Philippians 4:13
◦There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1

Speak these words over your life. Say them out loud in the shower, as you drive to work, as you mow your grass, as you cook dinner. Faith comes by hearing and hearing through the Word of God (Romans 10:17). As Bishop T.D. Jakes said, “You will see what you believe.”
Speak these truths into existence. God spoke nothing into something. We are made in His image. 1 John 4:4 says that greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world. Jesus said the things He did…healing the sick, restoring sight to the blind, raising the dead, all these things are less than what we will be able to do (John 14:12).
So speak the Word of God at the dead things in your life…hopes, dreams, your marriage, your finances and call them forth from the grave. Resurrect them by the power of God’s Word. You are an overcomer (1 John 5:5). You are more than a conqueror (Romans 8:37).

Speak them. Hear them. Believe them. Become them.
