A seagull lives in the woods outside my window.
Well, he sounds like a seagull, but since I’m 175 miles from the coast, maybe he’s not. He sure sounds like one, though.
And when I hear him, I have happy thoughts. The beach, the sun, crashing waves, laughing children and a book.
Freedom.
Wouldn’t it be great if we could train our minds in reverse order with the Word of God? I hear the seagull and have happy thoughts, but what about when we’re struck with an unhappy thought?
I’d like to automatically hear the Words of God.
When I hear, “You’re a worthless nobody” I’d love to hear an autoresponse of, “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Psalm 139:14). “I am God’s handiwork.” (Ephesians 2:10).
When I hear the voice in my head say, “You’re broke and will always be broke”, I want to hear a reply of “My God will meet all my needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”(Philippians 4:19 NIV).
What I’m learning is that these autoresponses can play…once we have them in our hearts committed to memory. It’s the only way to fight our enemy, the publisher of these thoughts.
How did Jesus battle Satan in the desert? With the Word of God.
Psalm 119:11 refers to hiding God’s Word in your heart.
If it was good enough for Jesus, then it should work for us.
