In Getting Out, I chronicled my efforts to get reimbursed by Sports Illustrated for a magazine subscription. The journey has ended.
I won.
After a dozen calls of getting passed on to different people in different companies, I ultimately circled back around to the very first number I called. Fortunately, I didn’t get the same person. That person who started this chain of madness.
This time I spoke to someone who could help me. That last call was amazingly simple. She found me in her system right away.
$96.51 posted to my checking account this morning.
I persisted in confidence because I decided early on that I might end up putting in more time than what $96.51 is worth, but they would not beat me. I might wear down at times, but I would wear them out. Someone had my money.
I would stalk, track down and find that person.
I believed I would win. Faith is confidence in the things not yet realized. That belief kept me fighting. I wasn’t in a hurry. I didn’t call everyday. But I kept at it. I didn’t allow it to slip off my radar. There wasn’t going to be a last call until there was a credit in my account.
It can be easy to get discouraged when your efforts seem futile, but you may just be one more call away. I think we often have goals that are just one final step away but because we can’t see the finish line, we grow weary and quit. Yet the goal is there one step beyond us waving us on to leap across the line.
Calling us to make one more call.
The victory call.
