My mom asked me the other day if she could bring her car to my house to wash it. My concrete driveway and long garden hose are more conducive to car washing.

I’m not sure, but I think she set me up.

My 76 year old mother wants to bring her car to my house to wash while I do what? Lay on my backside watching Fantasy Football Today?

Yep. She played me like a banjo. And I put out the music she wanted to hear.

“Will and I will wash your car.”

She put up a modest protest, but she wasn’t too slow in fetching her keys. So Will and I took her car and washed it.

I mean we took her car to Auto Bell and watched it being washed. I did break a small sweat waiting outside. It was hot.

In 46 years I have learned to work smarter instead of harder. It’s a choice. Did I tell her about Auto Bell? Uh…no.

She didn’t ask.

In life there are choices. The most important one affects us for eternity. One way leads to life. The other leads to death. One way leads to peace and joy, the other way seems right to a man, but in the end leads to destruction.

God’s way and our way. God’s way isn’t trouble free. Jesus said we would have problems in this world, but to be of good cheer, because He has overcome the world. It’s a hard choice because the allure of the world is so strong. The desire to do things our own way is powerful and intoxicating. Jesus is the narrow way and most will miss it.

But those who find it will discover that Jesus is the smart choice.
