I knew that I shouldn’t get into the car with this stranger. But I did. I sat in the passenger’s seat and glanced over at the guy driving as a cigarette dangled from his lips.

“This car will do 195mph? ” I asked.

“We’re gonna do 10 better than that” he said and pulled onto the interstate.

Into oncoming traffic.

I strapped on my seatbelt and began to pray as he dodged, swerved and near-missed cars to the right and left at 205mph.

And I wasn’t nervous or anxious. I had a peaceful, easy feeling in the midst of the most extremely dangerous and life-threatening escapade of my life. In the long run I knew that I had no control whatsoever over matters except for snapping on my seatbelt. Other than that, I can’t tell you why.

And praying. Trusting God. And this crazy man’s stunt driving skills.

What could I do? Start yelling at the desperado and distract his attention? Jump out of the car traveling at the speed of light? Grab the steering wheel? None of the above.

So I just prayed. And I wasn’t anxious. What will be will be. Life in the fast lane.

Then I woke up from the dream.

And began to wonder what in the heck it all meant. I’ll reflect on that next time.
