A more appropriate title would be, “An Unusually Friendly Hospital Receptionist Really Helps Ease My Nerves Before Hernia Surgery”, but it’s too long and I like the alliteration with the “h”s.
It was 5:45am and I have no expectations that anyone is friendly at that ungodly hour. I certainly am not. However, the receptionist at the hospital’s day surgery center in Monroe was a very pleasant surprise. With a big smile and happy attitude (without coffee even), she welcomed me like I was the most important person on the planet. Then once I was settled in the waiting area, I saw her treat the next person the same way. It was so strange.
This happy and kind lady went about her job like it was a mission, as if it’s her calling. How can it not be when you’re that cheery pre-dawn? Wouldn’t the world be a much better place if we all went about our work with the mindset of a servant- a heart to help and lighten the load of everyone we encounter?
I would thank her by name, but I barely know my own that early in the morning.
