Charles Spurgeon said, “To live for a political party is unworthy of a man who professes to be a Christian.”

I agree with Spurgeon. Christ is first. And foremost. For most of my life, I’ve not considered myself a political person. Back when I began to live for Christ and I had to choose how I would vote, there was only one issue that mattered to me. I know I’m a simple person. And not as smart as so many people who can parse out amazing intelligent, philosophical, and political arguments. But one issue has been my compass that led me to a political party.

Christ is first and I believe that I’m choosing Christ when I choose this party, because of this one issue.

Abortion.

I can’t choose a party whose platform supports the systematic and especially the government-funded support of the murder of babies. So it’s my simplistic nature that makes it very hard to understand how any Christian can vote as a Democrat. How is it possible to reconcile the support of a political party that supports abortion? And how can a Christian Democrat overlook the abortion issue for the sake of the rest of the Democratic platform?

Pastor Vance Havner said, “God judges what we tolerate as well as what we practice. Too often we put up with things we ought to put out.” So that’s how I picked a side. Christ first led me to the Republican Party. Havner also said, “The middle of the road is a poor place to walk. It is a poor place to drive. It is a poor place to live.”

So, as long as the Republican Party supports pro-life, they have my vote.
