Don’t you think God’s voice sounds like James Earl Jones?

I can’t verify that because I’ve never heard God speak, but I know He listens.

When Everything Fell Apart

The real estate crash of 2008–2009 almost crushed me. By 2010, my NC real estate title exam business limped along at half speed, and keeping us afloat was a side gig I had marketing for my friend’s company.

Then, on a bizarre day in August 2010, that relationship, both personal and business, spontaneously combusted.

The next day, as fate would have it, the tax man froze my bank account.

Yes, the very next day.

When it rains, it pours, and I didn’t have an umbrella.

A Prayer in the Setting Sun

Then late afternoon on an early October day in 2010, driving west into the setting sun, I cried out to God:

I need help!

I was alone and didn’t mention this plea for help to anyone.

The next morning, yes – the very next morning – I got a call from an old church friend I hadn’t spoken to in over a year. He needed to fill a part-time position in his company.

God Heard Me

My friend said the strangest thing happened.

The Lord woke him up at 4:30 am and told him to call me about the job.

He must’ve asked God if he could wait until 9am because that’s when I got the call.

He didn’t know my financial situation.

But he listened to God.

And God heard me.

In my distress I cried unto the LORD, and he heard me.

Psalm 120:1

For this and many other reasons I’ll share with you later, I can’t doubt the goodness of God.

All my life You have been faithful
All my life You have been so so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh I will sing of the goodness of God.

Goodness of God, Jenn Johnson, Bethel Music

I cried out to God in the middle of everything falling apart.
He heard me.
And He provided—faithfully, as He always does.
